Did you know that in conditions such as dry eye disease and MGD, there is an increase in the number of bacteria on the eyelids that produce specific toxins and actually contribute to the disease process?*

Did you also know, it has been shown that severity of MGD was positively correlated with a higher grade of bacterial severity on the eyelids which implies that MGD can be correlated with bacterial change?*

There are many false claims surrounding bacteria on compresses; we are led to believe that heating a compress will eliminate all bacteria, but this is false. It is also believed that if the compress filling has antibacterial properties, bacteria will not survive on the cover applied to the eyes, which is also false. In addition, most compresses now offer hot and cold usage and of course, no bacteria are killed when using cold.

Several years ago, we undertook the challenge of providing the safest, cleanest and most effective hot eye compress available for patients suffering with MGD, Blepharitis and Dry Eye Disease. We knew that we would be creating something revolutionary and cutting-edge, all whilst lifting the lid on the effects of bacteria on the eyes and what it really means for patients suffering from common eye problems.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Polygiene StayFresh™ Technology

The combination of sweat and heat promotes the rapid growth of bacteria in fabrics. To prevent this, we wash sensitive products at high temperatures but even with 60-degree washing, some bacteria remain.

The fabric treated by POLYGIENE is antimicrobial to the three leading causative microorganisms of eye infections and that associated with dry eye development. The POLYGIENE Stay-Fresh technology is a biocide based on silver salt / silver chloride. The silver salt blocks the growth of bacteria and fungi in textiles which keeps products hygienically "fresh" and requires less washing. It does not interfere with the natural bacterial flora of the skin as it is only active in the treated material.
